Yesterday's sudden passing of actor Sir Patrick Stewart continues to prove that the world took a dark turn right after Harambe's tragic day in 2016. Stewart will be globally remembered for his vastly powerful roles to which he provided a commanding and incredibly dignified air. One of Stewart's first big TV roles came way back in the 70s, when both men and women were so hairy that even the top of Patrick's head looked like Ron Jeremy's chest.

The miniseries I, Claudius gave Stewart a chance to show his skills to massive audiences by playing the ambitious and manipulative Roman commander Sejanus, a ruthless political operator who plots his way towards power. He did such a great job that many politicians, such as (redacted) and (classified), mentioned him as a direct inspiration in their fight for liberty and freedom of speech.

Then came what was Stewart's call to fame (Yes, trekkies, we see you). Sir Patrick was provided with a difficult challenge and just went "make it so", as he gave a completely new take on the USS Enterprise's captain, while managing to make the role his own. All of this despite having substantial Shatner-shaped shoes to fill.

We could go on and on about Stewart's virtues in this role, but one quote from Sheldon Cooper would suffice: Original series over Next Generation, but Picard over Kirk. As his career grew, his commanding air of authority and dignity became a trademark applied to all his memorable characters.

This was only intensified by his deep, booming voice, which allowed him to make several literary characters instant classics, such as Macbeth, Ebenezer Scrooge and Captain Ahab, in the story of a whale with a name so filthy we had to change it to Moby Richard. Yes, I was getting to you...

X-ies? Mennies? (Not sure what to call X-Men fandom) Certainly one of (if not the) most memorable of Stewart's performances for us millennials who grew up with 25 years of the same Wolverine. Professor Xavier became an instantly iconic character as Patrick played lover-to-enemies against his bestie Sir Ian McKellen in the first version of the movie franchise.

And for those of us with PSPTS (Patrick Stewart post-traumatic stress disorder), good news: we'll still get to see him play Xavier one more time in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday to be released on December 18 this year. But Sir Patrick was more than a pretty face and a shiny scalp.

Although he was a highly trained theatrical performer who brought many of Shakespearean characters to life, Stewart also had a funny side. Both in animation and live-action, he wasn't afraid to crack wise and play a ridiculous cartoon character or even a satirized version of himself.

So to honor him, we picked 10 of his best comedic roles, to send him off with a smile and a chuckle, full speed ahead. 10. The Huntmaster — Futurama (2012) Ign / The Walt Disney Company An absurdly aristocratic fox hunter who proves that founder fathers' stashes should definitely make a comeback.

9. King Goobot V — Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius (2001) Jimmyneutron.fandom / The Nickelodeon Group Exaggerated and cartoonish, this authoritarian ruler wouldn't have been the same without Patrick's commanding voice behind it. 8.

King Richard — Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993) Imdb / The Walt Disney Company Patrick teamed up with Mel Brook in this classic from our childhood (I can feel myself disintegrating as I speak.) With just a brief cameo, Patrick once again dominates the scene. 7. Susie Swanson — Family Guy (2005–2018) Scratchpadfandom / The Walt Disney Company Boy, that friendship really paid off.

In one of his smallest roles in the McFarnale cinematic universe, Stewart played cute baby Susie, whose thoughts are narrated by Sir Patrick's unmistakable voice. You would never think you'd laugh at something as simple as him saying "today I saw a balloon" 6. Hamlet - Sesame Street (1996) A cheeky Elizabethan soliloquy dedicated entirely to the letter B.

Once again, Stewart's dedication to his craft shows that he can play the most absurd situations with the highest honor. Be bewildered by Buddy's breathtakingly brilliant broadcast. 5.

William Shakespeare — Gnomeo & Juliet (2011) HarveyRivers17 / Rocket Pictures "Hamlet? Macbeth? Yawn, gimme a challenge." That was probably Patrick talking to his agent after having done the Bard for ages.

The solution? He became the bard. Well, a talking statue of him, but still.

And you thought Stewart couldn't be funny! Told you so. 4.

Walter Blunt — Blunt Talk (2015–2016) Hollywoodreporter / Fuzzy Door Productions Seth MacFarlane produced this story about a chaotic TV journalist who descends into madness. It was a big leap of faith, as Stewart took on an absurdist comedy leading role. 3.

Deputy Director Avery Bullock — American Dad! (2005–2026) AmericanDadFandom / The Walt Disney Company Avery Bullock basically everything Picard wasn't: a chaotic fetishistic megalomaniac. The perfect guy to be the deputy director of the CIA. The role opened up a whole set of comedy opportunities for Stewart.

It also solidified a work relationship with Seth Mcfarlane which presumably led to many duets on Karaoke nighs to the tune of the Bee-gees "how deep is your voice" 2. Number One — The Simpsons (1995) The Walt Disney Company / Screenrant In a role that exposed a secret society to the public, and one of the most memorable in an endless list of celebrity cameos, Stewart voices Number One.

This mysterious leader runs every meeting of the Stonecutters, an exclusive order that supposedly controls the world, but whose members do nothing more than sit around drinking beer all night and hazing newcomers by paddling their already swollen bums...with paddles. 1. Himself — Extras (2005) Technically a cameo more than a role, but Stewart's appearance in the UK's Extras is certainly amongst his funniest.

In season 1, episode 6, he plays a fictionalized version of himself who is obsessed with a screenplay he wrote and is planning to star in. It's the story of a man who uses his superpowers to, basically, remove women's clothing and, before they can get them back on, he has already "seen everything" (Oof).

Despite the absurdity of the situation, Patrick played the role with dedication and sincerity and, hopefully, no method acting whatsoever. And many more... There's so many more roles we would have liked to include, but the line must be drawn here.

This far, no further. But for now, you've got some funny roles to rewatch. Engage!
