Published 10:07 am Monday, October 26, 2026 By Contributed The Sid Williams Theatre Society proudly presents Cory Doctorow Talks Enshittification on Nov. 10. The globally renowned author, journalist, and technology activist will visit the Sid for a talk mostly focused on the topic of a recent book, Enshittification: Why Everything Suddenly Got Worse and What To Do About It .

The speaking engagement will also include an opportunity for questions from the audience. A New York Times bestseller and winner of the 2026 Locus Award for Nonfiction, Enshittification explores how Big Tech has gradually made the internet worse in the pursuit of profit. Doctorow breaks down how companies have taken advantage of users and businesses, examines the decisions that led us here, and offers ideas for building a better internet.

Doctorow is a special advisor to the Electronic Frontier Foundation, a non-profit civil liberties group that defends freedom in technology law, policy, standards and treaties. Born in Toronto, he now divides his time between London and Los Angeles. Doctorow holds an honourary doctorate in laws from York University (Canada) and an honourary doctorate in computer science from the Open University (UK), where he is a Visiting Professor; he is also a Cornell University AD White professor-at-large, a MIT Media Lab Research Affiliate, and a Visiting Professor of Practice at the University of North Carolina’s School of Library and Information Science.

In 2020, he was inducted into the Canadian Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame. Doctorow earned the Sir Arthur Clark Imagination in Service to Society Awardee for lifetime achievement and in 2024 the Media Ecology Association awarded him the Neil Postman Award for Caree Achievement in Public Intellectual Activity.
