8 October, 2026 South Africa will play their first Test on home soil since defeating Australia in the ICC World Test Championship Final at Lord's last year. The two sides currently occupy the top two slots in the WTC standings , with Australia first with an 80% PCT, while the Proteas sit close behind with 75%.

South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma is hoping the occasion provides an opportunity to celebrate with the home supporters and have their full backing. “It's our first time playing Test cricket since we're the WTC champions here at home,” Bavuma said at the pre-match presser ahead of the first Test.

“We'd like to celebrate that moment with our local fans. Hopefully, the people in Durban come out in support to tomorrow." Nortje, who has 19 Tests and 70 wickets under his belt, is making a return to the red-ball unit after a three and a half year hiatus, with his last Test appearance coming in February 2023. “A guy like [Anrich Nortje] is hard to ignore. There aren't many guys around who are bowling 150-plus, and I think as a batter, that's not something that I would look forward to.
