UEFA Champions League - Bayern Munich v Arsenal - Allianz Arena, Munich, Germany - October 21, 2026. Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany reacts Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany was hospitalised on Friday after collapsing following a training session. The 40-year-old was observing the session when the incident occurred, the German club said.

“Kompany will undergo comprehensive examinations at the hospital and remain under medical care,” the team stated. “In the meantime, his coaching staff will manage training and match-related activities.” Bayern sporting director Max Eberl said the club would give Kompany all the time he needed to recover, stressing that his health remained the priority.

“Vincent Kompany's health is our top priority,” Eberl said. “We at FC Bayern will do everything we can to ensure that he recovers quickly. Vinnie will receive all the necessary medical care and support, as well as all the time he needs.” Kompany had previously been diagnosed with a viral infection, which forced him to miss a training session and a press conference on Tuesday.

However, he returned to the dugout for Bayern's 2-2 draw against Arsenal in the Champions League on Wednesday. After the match, Kompany admitted that he had tried to carry on despite being unwell and had ignored the signals his body was giving him. The Bundesliga leaders, who drew 2-2 at home against Arsenal in the Champions League earlier this week, are due to travel to Freiburg on Sunday.

Bayern are scheduled to face Freiburg in the Bundesliga on Sunday. The club said Kompany's coaching staff would oversee training and match-related activities while he remains under medical care.
