After deciding to live off the grid as a "radical Catholic extremist" and committing his family to a vow of poverty , former child actor Bug Hall is now asking for financial support. Hall, best known for playing Alfalfa in the 1994 film The Little Rascals , has launched a GoFundMe fundraiser to help himself and his family finish setting up their home ahead of the birth of his and wife Jill's sixth child.

"It's now six years since I self-cancelled, and I have avoided doing one of these in all that time," Hall wrote in the fundraiser description. "I always said this was my choice, and so I didn't want to offload the glorious burden of it unless there was no other choice. Well here we are." Hall said he and his family have moved onto new land but are short on materials for construction and are "a little behind" on bills for their phone usage, propane for their camper, and an electric hookup service fee.

"We're all overjoyed to be where we are, and we're even enjoying roughing it, but baby six is less than a month away, and I really need some help getting the last few things buttoned up beforehand," Hall wrote. He added, "Times are hard for everyone, and I'm no more deserving than anyone else, but I ask in your charity that you help where you can, whether monetarily, by sharing this, or by prayer and sacrifice for the Hall-Barnetts of the Holy Cross." As of the time of this writing, the GoFundMe campaign has raised nearly $21,000 against a goal of $2,000.

In previous video blogs, Hall said that he gave up his Hollywood career, which he called "a big pile of nothing," and devoted himself to life as a "radical Catholic extremist," according to The Daily Mail . Hall also told the outlet he had taken a vow of poverty, giving up his Hollywood fortune and donating most of his belongings.

He now owns a 10-acre plot of land near Mountain View, Arkansas, The Daily Mail adds. Hall also told the outlet he and Jill are homeschooling their children and will "strongly discourage them" from attending college, saying formal education is mostly "nonsense." He has expressed other controversial views, calling gay marriage "contrary to natural law" and abortion "plainly murder," per The Daily Mail .

He also spurred backlash on X in 2024 when he called his newborn son his "heir" and implied he considered his daughters "dishwasher[s]." In other X posts, Hall said that his children are "severely" punished for "unacceptable" behavior and that he starts punishing his children when they are as young as 10 months. In 2020, he was arrested and booked on misdemeanor possession for huffing air duster cans at a hotel in Weatherford, Texas, though he told The Daily Mail he didn't face charges, and the outlet reports finding no court records regarding that incident. This April, TMZ reported Hall had been arrested and charged in Ohio with failure to appear for a 2024 court date.

He also got a traffic citation in 2024 for not having liability insurance, the site added. Read the latest entertainment news on TV Insider .
