Buses carrying Opposition leaders and MPs entered Minto Road as the protesters headed towards the memorial. The Opposition has been demanding Kumar's resignation over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Addressing reporters after the lunch, Kharge said the Opposition wanted to highlight that the freedom secured by India's freedom fighters was being "snatched" and that the people's "right to vote is being taken away".
Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi said around 300 MPs from both Houses had sought to hold a peaceful protest but were stopped for two consecutive days. He alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and CEC Gyanesh Kumar had "hijacked Hindustan" through a "criminal conspiracy" and "destroyed the Constitution".
Gandhi said the Opposition would ensure that the four leaders were brought to justice, while the Opposition MPs continued towards Rajghat amid heavy security in central Delhi.
