President John Dramani Mahama has commended the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and the Ghana Police Service for improvements in public safety, security and crime investigations across the country. He made the commendation on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, during the commissioning of an 85-bed ward complex at the Police Hospital in Accra.
The new facility is expected to improve healthcare delivery for police personnel, their families and members of the general public. President Mahama said the investment formed part of efforts to improve the welfare of police officers, who face significant physical and psychological demands in the line of duty.
He stressed the importance of ensuring that officers injured during operations receive timely and quality medical attention. The President also urged the hospital’s management and staff to maintain high standards of hygiene, patient safety and professional care, while ensuring that the facility and its equipment were properly maintained.
As part of efforts to strengthen emergency response and patient care, President Mahama announced the donation of two new ambulances to the Police Hospital. He further assured the Ghana Police Service of the provision of an additional armoured vehicle and an expansion of facilities at the hospital to improve healthcare delivery.
The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, welcomed the commissioning of the ward complex, describing it as an important step towards improving access to healthcare for police personnel, their families and the public. He said the expanded capacity of the hospital would reduce the need to transfer patients to other health facilities and improve access to specialised medical care.
Mr Yohuno reaffirmed the Police Service’s commitment to maintaining the new facility and ensuring that it provides quality healthcare to all patients. The commissioning forms part of efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and support the welfare of personnel of the Ghana Police Service.
