The Seattle Kraken and St. Louis Blues have both checked in on Detroit Red Wings defenseman Simon Edvinsson. Although Detroit Red Wings interim general manager Shawn Horcoff remains adamant that he wants to sign restricted free agent defenseman Simon Edvinsson , trade rumors continue to swirl around the 23-year-old.
The Swede remains away from the team, and despite the Dylan Larkin saga hogging most of the spotlight in Motown, multiple teams have shown interest in the former first-round pick. That includes the St. Louis Blues and Seattle Kraken , as The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta reported this week.
“Last week, I spoke to one team and they told me they believe this will end in a trade. I spoke to another team this morning who believes the same thing. Now, it’s not their player, but that’s two teams now that have told me that their belief is this ends in a trade in some way,” Pagnotta said on the latest DFO Insider with Jeff Marek.
“Talks have continued. There are (several) teams in that in that mix. I do wonder a lot about St.
Louis. ... I still go back to Seattle being another team. We talked about that (last week).” Marek added that the Kraken are looking to add a defenseman after a strong start to the campaign.
They're 8-4-1, in third place in the Pacific Division and eyeing a playoff berth in the Western Conference. The same goes for the Blues, who are 6-6-1 and continuing to hang around; they defeated the Boston Bruins 4-1 on Thursday night. Edvinsson still prefers a change of scenery over a contract, per multiple reports, and both the Blues and Kraken seem to be reasonable fits for the young blueliner.
Along with the two West clubs, Pagnotta points to the Carolina Hurricanes, San Jose Sharks and Toronto Maple Leafs as other teams with varying levels of interest. Article Continues Below Sportsnet hockey insider Elliotte Friedman wrote in his latest 32 Thoughts column Friday that “Boston, Nashville, St.
Louis, San Jose, Seattle” are all teams with interest. “No doubt there are more.” Edvinsson is reportedly looking for a long-term deal with an average annual value exceeding $10 million. Although Detroit Red Wings interim general manager Shawn Horcoff remains adamant that he wants to sign restricted free agent defenseman Simon Edvinsson, trade rumors continue to swirl around the 23-year-old.
