Drogheda United’s place in the promotion/relegation playoff was confirmed last night in spite of a 2-0 win over already safe Galway United.

Going into the final game of the regular season, the Drogs needed to win, and hope there was a seven-goal swing between themselves and Waterford - something which even the most optimistic Boynesider couldn’t have imagined. As it was, Kevin Doherty’s side put in an impressive performance, with goals in each half from Brandon Kavanagh and Mark Doyle securing the points.

Ryan Brennan - who announced his imminent retirement earlier this week - came off the bench late on to a fantastic ovation in what was his last performance in front of the home fans. Afterwards, Doherty spoke to LMFM’s David Sheehan.
