About 30 All Progressives Congress (APC) groups under the Oniyangi Progressive Alliance (OPA) in Kwara State have begun mobilising support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections. The groups are also conducting house-to-house campaigns in support of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s senatorial ambition and the governorship bid of the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi Salihu.
OPA Coordinator Mohammed Kamal Deen said this while speaking with reporters in Ilorin, adding that the alliance was strengthening its grassroots structures and media operations to improve the APC’s electoral prospects in Kwara and across the country. He said the group, under Oniyangi’s leadership, was committed to mobilising voters and building support for the party’s candidates ahead of the elections.
Kamal Deen stressed that electoral success requires more than political enthusiasm, identifying proper planning, teamwork, effective communication and sustained engagement with voters as essential to victory. “Political success requires more than enthusiasm; it demands preparation, teamwork, effective communication and a genuine connection with the people,” he said.
The coordinator described AbdulRazaq’s ambition to represent Kwara Central Senatorial District as a continuation of his contributions to governance. He also expressed confidence in Danladi’s ability to lead the state. OPA called for reconciliation among aggrieved APC members in Kwara, warning that internal divisions could weaken the party’s chances in 2027.
The alliance urged party leaders and stakeholders to set aside their differences and work towards a common goal ahead of the elections. “We also stand behind Hon. Yakubu Salihu Danladi as our preferred choice for Governor of Kwara State.
We believe Kwara deserves leadership that combines experience, energy, competence and a genuine commitment to the people,” he said. Kamal Deen explained that the alliance’s support for Danladi reflected its commitment to fairness, justice, and inclusion, adding that all parts of the state deserved a meaningful sense of belonging.
He reaffirmed the group’s support for Tinubu’s re-election and other APC candidates across Kwara, saying OPA was working towards a coordinated campaign to promote peaceful democratic participation. It is also expanding the operations of its Central Media Coordinating Directorate, with units covering editorial production, digital and social media, field reporting and documentation, media monitoring, and radio and broadcast communication. He urged members, women, youths, and other supporters to remain disciplined and united, warning against misinformation, intimidation, personal attacks, and divisive political conduct. “Our objective is to contribute to a coordinated APC victory at all levels through organised mobilisation, responsible communication, and peaceful democratic participation,” he said.
Also speaking, OPA Convener Mallam AbdulAzeez Oniyangi appealed to dissatisfied party members to embrace dialogue and unity. He urged aggrieved APC members in Kwara to set aside their differences and work collectively towards the party’s success in 2027. The APC chieftain acknowledged that some members had legitimate grievances but urged them not to allow their disagreements to weaken the party.
“Any grievance is valid, no matter what, and I respect it. But I only plead that we are one family. It is only God that gives,” he said.
Oniyangi urged party members to accept the outcome of internal decisions, resolve disputes amicably, and focus on the APC’s collective interest. He noted that disagreements were inevitable in political organisations but maintained that the ability to manage them constructively would determine the party’s strength ahead of the next general elections.
Expressing optimism about the APC’s electoral prospects, he said the party remained capable of overcoming its challenges and securing victory in 2027. “Insha Allah, our chances are bright, regardless of any challenges that you have. No flight is smooth anywhere in the world.
You must have your turbulence. The important thing is to have a proper and safe landing, and we are landing well,” he said. Oniyangi also highlighted the importance of accommodating people with different opinions, noting that his political engagement brought him into contact with supporters and visitors from diverse backgrounds and communities.
