ESMO – European Society for Medical Oncology shared Leonardo Brunetti’s post on LinkedIn, adding : “We are delighted to see Leonardo Brunetti share his plans as the inaugural recipient of the ESMO Artificial Intelligence (AI) Fellowship. Created to support young oncologists , the goal of this new fellowship is to foster research into ethical, practical AI tools that advance precision medicine, improve patient outcomes and strengthen cancer care worldwide.

We wish Leonardo Brunetti every success as he embarks on this exciting fellowship and look forward to following his progress.” Leonardo Brunetti , Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, shared : “I’m honored to be the inaugural recipient of the first ESMO Artificial Intelligence Fellowship .

At Maastricht University, I’ll be working on a multimodal model that combines imaging , genomics and immune profiling to study host-tumor interactions in non-small cell lung cancer, with the hope of gaining the possibility to better predict who responds to immunotherapy and why do they respond and more importantly to be able to introduce a new way of interpreting biomarkers for these patients.

I believe that AI has enormously exciting potential in the field of cancer research and it can help us synthesise more data than ever before, that’s why I’m really excited about this new journey. A huge thank you to ESMO – European Society for Medical Oncology, and to my mentors Biagio Ricciuti and Hugo Aerts for all the guidance, inspiring support and more importantly for believing in me!
