Sumita Misra, financial commissioner (revenue and disaster management), Govt of Haryana Chandigarh: Haryana has set a target of 100% population coverage for Census 2027, directing district administrations to ensure no individual or household is missed or counted twice. Financial commissioner (revenue and disaster management) Dr Sumita Misra, the state nodal officer for the census, said the state has completed the first phase across 51,907 houselisting blocks and is preparing for population enumeration across nearly 70,000 blocks in 23 districts, covering 6,522 villages and 88 towns.

About 87,450 personnel, including 74,800 enumerators and 12,650 supervisors, will be deployed across 203 census charges. Misra asked deputy commissioners to monitor preparations, identify operational gaps and ensure accuracy, accountability and confidentiality. Districts have been directed to prepare special plans for difficult terrain, high-rise buildings, urban slums, migrant populations and fast-growing colonies.

Director (census operations) Lalit Jain said Census 2027 would be India’s first fully digital census, with enumerators using mobile applications and a centralised system tracking field operations. Citizens can use the self-enumeration portal from Jan 10 to 24, 2027. House-to-house enumeration will run from Jan 25 to Feb 28, followed by a revisional round from March 1 to 5.

The reference time is midnight on March 1.
