Paris Hilton has played many roles over the years: reality star, DJ, businesswoman and, now, Belle from “Beauty and the Beast.” But after Hilton shared photos of her family’s Halloween costumes, some social media users questioned whether she had taken center stage at her daughter’s expense.
Hilton, 45, played Belle in a gold ballgown, matching gloves and a brunette wig. Her husband, Carter Reum, dressed as the Beast. Their son, Phoenix, 3, was Lumière, the enchanted candelabra, and their daughter, London, 2, wore a colorful costume inspired by Chip, the teacup.
“My life is a fairytale, and the magic never ends,” Hilton wrote in the caption of the Oct. 26 Instagram post. Many fans loved it.
They called Hilton the “Queen of Halloween,” described the photos as “iconic” and praised Reum for embracing the Beast. But others took issue with the casting, arguing that the kids, especially London, should have gotten the lead roles. “Cute but maybe the kids should have been Belle and Beast and the adults the side dishes,” one commenter wrote.
Another asked, “Why not let your daughter be Belle? Attention has to be on her!” Hilton responded in the comments of a separate Instagram post, explaining that London chose her own character. “London said she wanted to dress up as Chip,” Hilton wrote .
“She said it was her favorite character in the movie.” Plenty of followers came to her defense. They said the costumes were harmless fun and that a toddler’s choice of character hardly counted as a parenting controversy. “Why is everyone so pressed in the comments?” one person wrote, noting that Hilton stages Halloween photo shoots every year.
She does. Hilton, who calls the holiday “Slivingween,” has made elaborate family costumes a tradition since becoming a mom . Before her son’s first Halloween in 2023, she told People she’d already bought him “probably 20 different costumes.”
