In his third Tonight show season, Sam Pang has brought his guest announcer to his inner circle. In his third season of Sam Pang Tonight Pang is getting closer to his guest announcer, literally. No longer at opposite ends of his compact studio, Pang is now happy to rub shoulders with his announcer.
“A big change, I suppose, is that that guest announcer is actually over with me at the desk. They’re not over at a lectern. Already after one show, it just feels warmer and more intimate.
It’s like me and Kitty talking, it was just nice. The proximity of the guest announcer just made it warmer,” he tells TV Tonight . “It’s not the traditional (moving to) the couch when the guest comes.
They’re kind of with me, but it worked well, and I think we’ll definitely continue that.” The show also pre-records the night before at 10’s Como studio, rather than just an hour or so before as it did in Seasons 1 and 2. “We thought the Have You Been Paying Attention? model was a good thing.
So we learned some lessons from one and two. I’m glad we did them ‘live’ for the first two seasons, but (Sunday) night did make it a little bit cleaner and a little bit crisper. But I was always I was pretty happy that there was the DNA, like the comedy and the funny that we were going for that was there.
It’ll just be slightly slicker, hopefully.” But Pang is not hands-on with the final edit. “I think the less I have to do, the better. I think everyone involved in the production are professionals and you come in with fresh eyes.
So they’re not influenced by certain things that happen and how I think they they went. ” Episode 1 last night featured MasterChef judge and fellow Gold Logie nominee, Poh Ling Yeow. “Poh came came on to deliver the Logie speech that she would have given if she’d won.
She was magnificent. And then we had Alexander Volkanovski, the UFC fighter. I don’t know much about UFC, but that was an interesting chat.
“The guests vary depending on who’s around and who’s in the country. So I can tell you, we’ve got Broden Kelly from Aunty Donna, who’ll be my guest announcer (next Monday). Pia Miranda is on to talk about very many things, and I’m really enjoying the Saturday Night Live UK version and their weekend update with Paddy Young and Ania Magliano.
I’d like to talk to them, so that’s hopefully that’s looking good.” Next week’s show also follows Big Brother, which it is likely to do for most of its season. But don’t expect much link as Rove Live used to do “That stuff is a bit out of my control, but whatever General 10 have on before me is fine,” he insists.
“I don’t think we’ll be doing live crosses from Big Brother . Those days are gone. But I’m sure Mel Tracina will pop up in something.” Sam Pang Tonight caps off a busy year for Pang in both scripted and unscripted comedy.
“It’s been a busy year, but I think it’s been well spaced out. It started with Front Bar and HYBPA? , and then Ground Up , and now finishing here, but I’m trying to spread them out over the year,” he explains. “I did have five or six weeks off in the middle of the year.
That was a pre-planned thing, so it’s been a big year, but it’s also been wonderful. I feel relatively fresh, and raring to go for Season Three of the Tonight show.” Sam Pang Tonight continues 9pm Monday on 10
