Only days after announcing new smart home products, Apple is teasing a MacBook Pro-focused event for next week, on Wednesday, October 28th. This morning, the company sent journalists an invite to attend the event, which starts at 10am PST, and is being held in Los Angeles. “Pro and tell,” the invite says.
Apple’s SVP for marketing, Greg Joswiak, also tweeted the same tagline. The company announced the event amid signs that Apple’s long-rumored touch-screen MacBook will finally debut. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman says that next week’s event will focus on “touch-screen MacBooks,” along with a new iPad mini, and other Macs refreshed with the company’s recently released M6 processor.
Although Apple has created MacBooks with a thin “ touchbar ” display over the keyboard, the company has so far steered clear of adding an actual touch-screen over the laptops. Instead, the touch-screen capability has been more common on Windows laptops and convertibles. So we’ll be curious on why and how Apple has decided to implement the feature.
Gurman has specifically mentioned a 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro, each boasting OLED displays featuring the touch-screen capability. The new MacBooks, along with the next-gen iPad Mini, could also officially go on sale November 9th. Another rumor is that Apple has designed the new MacBook Pros to be significantly lighter , making them easier to carry.
We’ll also be curious about pricing when the AI-driven memory shortage has been causing price hikes across all kinds of consumer electronics, and Apple has been no exception. Stay tuned for our coverage.
