Inglis had received positive news about his fractured finger in Perth this week and will fly to Gqeberha next week to join Australia's Test side and continue his recovery. The Australian officials in South Africa will be able to have a closer look at the 31-year-old, before deciding whether he is immediately fit for the second Test or the third game in Cape Town.

With Cameron Green out of the first Test due to an abdominal strain as well, Australia were without some experience in their ranks in Durban. And while the batters struggled at the start, including a duck from the returning Nic Maddinson, who was featuring as an opener, Matt Renshaw turned it around for the tourists with a stellar 190.

The second day of the Durban Test finished with South Africa at 27/1 in response of Australia's 390. More experience in their ranks will further strengthen Australia's prospects in the series.
