People and businesses across Scotland are being warned not to eat or sell certain eggs imported from Ukraine after Salmonella was detected. Food Standards Scotland (FSS) and the Food Standards Agency (FSA) issued the warning over raw shell eggs produced by Yasensvit Ltd in Kyiv. The affected eggs may have been supplied to catering businesses, although some may also have reached smaller shops.

The eggs are not sold through major supermarket chains. Consumers are being urged to check the code stamped directly onto the eggshell, as the products may have been repacked in the UK and sold under different business names. The affected eggs carry the code 3UA1012066 and apply to all pack sizes and best-before dates.

Anyone who has bought eggs displaying the code is being advised not to eat them and to dispose of them safely. Food businesses that have received the affected products must immediately stop selling or using them, remove any remaining stock from sale and recall products already sold directly to customers.

Salmonella generally causes a self-limiting gastroenteritis, with symptoms including stomach cramps, diarrhoea, vomiting or fever. Anyone experiencing symptoms is advised to stay away from work, school or nursery until they have been symptom-free for at least 48 hours to help prevent the infection spreading.

FSS and the FSA are working with local authority enforcement partners to ensure the affected products are removed from sale.
